When my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. Psalm 61:1-2 KJV

SCRIPTURE:
Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer.  From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.  Psalm 61:1-2  KJV

COMMENT:
As a young Christian, I didn’t understand what was meant when Jesus was referred to as a “Rock”.  However, through studies and my personal relationship with Him, I began to realize that this referenced Him as a solid foundation.  He is a strong substance on which to build.  An impenetrable fortress in which to hide.  Once you have built on something as strong, sure and reliable as the word of God, you can withstand any storm, any trial or anything that desires to shake your very core.  Not only will He allow you to stand ON Him, He will further invite you to stand IN Him!  Think about the song lyrics “Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in thee.”  Imagine, when we are so overwhelmed, afraid, worried, lost, hurt or under attack, our God, our Protector, our Rock would actually carve a cleft in Himself, and allow us to slide right into that perfect hiding place and be protected from all assaults!  The Rock of our Salvation will not only protect us in the moment, He will save us for all eternity, if we simply ask and believe.  Praise be the name of the Lord!

OUR PRAYER FOR THIS WEEK:
Father God, In the name of Jesus, we thank You for being our hiding place.  We bless You for being our strength and solid foundation.  We love You for lifting us out of the miry pit and placing our feet on the solid ground that is You.  Continue to keep us in your precious care.  In Jesus’ name we pray.  Amen.

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Romans 10:9 KJV

COMMENT:
I remember getting saved one Sunday morning in June of 2001.  The following Monday at work, I wanted to tell someone, but I didn’t want everyone to know yet.  (I still don’t know why.)  So I went to the cubicle of an amazing Woman of God, who used to oversee the lunchtime Christian Fellowship Group, she had begun there.  When I got there, I whispered in her ear “I got saved yesterday, shhhh, don’t tell anyone.”  Well she jumped out of her seat, hugged me hard and shouted Hallelujah!  She ran over to another Christian woman’s desk and shouted, “Nejla got saved yesterday, Praise the Lord!”  I was horrified!  I said shhhhh, I don’t want anyone to know yet!  She asked, “Why?”  I said, I don’t know, I’m just not ready.”  She asked, “ready for what?”  I said, “I don’t know.”  She said, “you are not going to be some closet Christian, Nejla.  The Lord has just lifted you from the pit of hell, so you are going to give Him glory by spreading that Good News to those around you!  That afternoon, I was welcomed into the Christian Fellowship Group.
I stayed involved for many years and learned so much about the Word of God, ministry and leadership.  I thank her, from the bottom of my heart, for not listening to me that day and basically “outing” me.  Through her ministry, I learned to, confidently, go forth with my testimony, discover my spiritual “gifts” and say “yes” to God’s plan for my life.
To God be the Glory.

OUR PRAYER FOR THIS WEEK:
Father God, In the name of Jesus, we thank You for our salvation and the sacrifice of your precious blood.  We thank you for holy boldness and a mind to tell the world about You.  We ask you to prepare the hearts and minds of this sin-sick world to be convicted by Your Word and to say “yes” to Your will!  Create ministry opportunities.  In Jesus’ name we pray.  Amen.

A man’s gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men. Proverbs 18:16 NASB

SCRIPTURE:
A man’s gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men.  Proverbs 18:16 NASB

COMMENT:
This scripture does not say that a man’s “education” will make room for him, because I know several PhD’s that have been unemployed for quite some time.  Nor does it say that a man’s “money” will make room for him, because I know some very wealthy people that have been unable to experience a moment of inner peace.  Saying that a man’s “gift” will make room for him and bring him before great men, refers to the “gifts” of God, that we have all been given.  The thing for which we were created, will present itself to us and then give us favor in our lives.  It will be the thing that we love doing the most.  It will be the thing that gives us joy.  It will also be the thing that prospers us.  God gave us these gifts so that we would have joy performing them and that they would take care of us spiritually and financially.  If we try to take on things that are not necessarily our gifts, just so that we can make money, they will always be less in our spirits than our true gifts.  If we become architects, just because dad and grandpa were architects, but our real joy is in painting, we will not be operating in our gift.

If we become doctors just because it has been a family tradition, when our real joy is in writing or singing, we will not be functioning in our preordained destinies, that future that was tailor-made for us, by God.  We will be operating in a profession, but not operating in our gifting.  That is why many of us feel so unfulfilled in our “chosen” professions.  They may pay us well and may be very prestigious, but they leave us feeling completely and utterly empty.  When we fully commit to walking into our destinies and being who and what God intended us to be, then and only then will we be spiritually, emotionally and financially fulfilled.  Then and only then will we be pleasing to God, in this matter.

OUR PRAYER FOR THIS WEEK:
Father God, In the name of Jesus, we thank You for the many gifts You have given us.  We ask you to help us have the strength and courage to walk freely and confidently into our custom-made destinies.  Help us to perfect these God-given gifts, that You be glorified.

Help us to empty our gift(s) into the earth and to take none of them to our graves with us.  We thank You for assigning purpose to our lives and showing us the reasons for which we were created.  In Jesus’ name we pray.

Amen.
