When my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. Psalm 61:1-2 KJV

SCRIPTURE:
Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer.  From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.  Psalm 61:1-2  KJV

COMMENT:
As a young Christian, I didn’t understand what was meant when Jesus was referred to as a “Rock”.  However, through studies and my personal relationship with Him, I began to realize that this referenced Him as a solid foundation.  He is a strong substance on which to build.  An impenetrable fortress in which to hide.  Once you have built on something as strong, sure and reliable as the word of God, you can withstand any storm, any trial or anything that desires to shake your very core.  Not only will He allow you to stand ON Him, He will further invite you to stand IN Him!  Think about the song lyrics “Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in thee.”  Imagine, when we are so overwhelmed, afraid, worried, lost, hurt or under attack, our God, our Protector, our Rock would actually carve a cleft in Himself, and allow us to slide right into that perfect hiding place and be protected from all assaults!  The Rock of our Salvation will not only protect us in the moment, He will save us for all eternity, if we simply ask and believe.  Praise be the name of the Lord!

OUR PRAYER FOR THIS WEEK:
Father God, In the name of Jesus, we thank You for being our hiding place.  We bless You for being our strength and solid foundation.  We love You for lifting us out of the miry pit and placing our feet on the solid ground that is You.  Continue to keep us in your precious care.  In Jesus’ name we pray.  Amen.

Honor Thy Father And Thy Mother

SCRIPTURE:
Honor thy father and thy mother, as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.  Deuteronomy 5:16  KJV

COMMENT:
Honoring our parents should come naturally to us.  I love this scripture because it is a commandment qualified with a blessing.  The Lord says, if you do this, I will do that.  My sister and I often joke that we were born knowing that our parents were in charge and that we would respect their authority.  In the late 60’s, I was a small child, being raised, in the projects of Brooklyn, N.Y.  Even though both of our parents worked, we didn’t have a lot of money.  However, we had no idea that we were living below the poverty level.  They always did the best they could do for us.  My mom would read us the “riot act” before we went into a store.  She would look at us and say, “You don’t want anything, you’re not getting anything, so don’t ask for anything!  You got that?” And we would nod our heads and respond in unison “Yes, Mommy”, and follow her in, quietly and respectfully.  Although it might sound sort of harsh and regimented to you, it wasn’t.  She and my father, loved us and taught us, from birth, how to behave.  We didn’t show out or have tantrums or display any of the disrespectful behavior we see today!  Children throwing themselves on the floor, scream at their parents and crying to get their way!  That would NEVER have happened in my day or with my parents!  I love them, even now, for teaching us to respect them and ourselves and authority.  It cultivated the deep sense of family we share.  Now, in their old age, we continue to have a wonderful and loving relationship.  We also have a heart and mind to care for them with joy and gratitude!  Thank you, Jesus!

OUR PRAYER FOR THIS WEEK:
Father God, In the name of Jesus, we thank You for the guardians You have given charge over us.  Those angels You connected us to, that we would call parents.  Help us to honor them with our love, reverence and respect.  Let us enjoy the gift that they are to us.  If someone is dealing with a broken relationship, Lord, restore it!  Make a way for forgiveness and reconciliation.  Finally, Lord, if we didn’t have righteous parents, help us to break that chain! Shape us into the holy and acceptable, loving parents we wish we had been given.  Help us teach our children this and all Your great commandments, that we may be pleasing to You.  In Jesus’ name we pray.

Amen.

IN MYSTERIOUS WAYS: And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13 NIV

Every week we will choose a scripture that relates to a scene in the play IN MYSTERIOUS WAYS.  We hope that they may be a blessing to you.  Please feel free to leave a comment below.

SCRIPTURE:
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love.  But the greatest of these is love.
1 Corinthians 13:13 NIV

COMMENT:
Faith”, “Hope” and “Love”.  These three things, in and of themselves, will make for a wonderful life, here, on planet earth.  However, “love”, alone, will make for a perfect life in heaven.  Once we have made our transition from earth to Glory, we won’t need to have faith or hope, we will have already overcome that need by making it in to the Kingdom of Heaven.  But, since God is Love, and God’s love is what created the opportunity for us to be with Him (John 3:16), “Love” is the only one of the three that will continue to reign throughout eternity!  (A Shout goes there, Saints!)  To God be all the Glory!

OUR PRAYER FOR THIS WEEK:
Father God, In the name of Jesus, increase our faith, if need be.  Remind us, daily, that our hope is in You and You alone.  And finally, Father, touch our hearts and help us to love one another as You have loved us.  Show Yourself mighty in our lives, day by day.  In Jesus’ name we pray.
Amen
